Health and Well Being Group


The Primary Care Trust covering Ashfield - NHS Nottinghamshire County - has a statutory duty to implement programmes to tackle health and wellbeing in partnership with other agencies and the community. To ensure that the health and wellbeing programme finds expression through our strategies, a Senior Officer from the Primary Care Trust has a seat on the Executive.

The Health and Wellbeing Group is chaired by Fiona Callaghan, Health Improvement Principal, NHS Nottinghamshire County and includes representatives from the following organisations:

  • Officer, Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust
  • Officer, Ashfield Links Forum
  • Healthy Lifestyles Manager, Ashfield District Council
  • Officers, Nottinghamshire County Council

The Group will work towards the following outcomes:
  • To reduce the prevalence of smoking amongst the adult population
  • To reduce exposure to environmental tobacco smoke
  • To raise awareness of the risk of smoking and to prevent the initiation of smoking by young people
  • Reduce the incidence and impact of avoidable injuries with regard to those suffering disadvantage
  • Increased awareness and participation in healthy lifestyles as outlined in ‘An Active Lifestyles Strategy for Ashfield 2007-2012’:
  • Reduced obesity prevalence as outlined in ‘An Active Lifestyles Strategy for Ashfield 2007-2012’:
  • A reduction of obesity levels in young people as outlined in ‘An Active Lifestyles Strategy for Ashfield 2007-2012’:
  • A reduction in hospital admissions due to alcohol misuse
  • To provide education, supporting early intervention work within primary and secondary schools, young people’s and community events
  • To provide brief intervention training for Tier 1 and/or 2 services, primarily workers within supported accommodation/tenancy support services
  • Improvements in the health of patients who have access to benefits and welfare information and advice in primary care
  • Tackling awareness and stigma associated with people whom suffer from Mental Health issues
  • Establish the Ashfield & Mansfield Mental Health & Wellbeing Group
  • Improved health in the workplace
